The third son of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, Muhi-ud-Din Muhammad, commonly known as Aurangzeb (Ornament of the Throne), was the sixth Mughal Emperor for a period of 49 years from 1658 to 1707. A notable expansionist, Aurangzeb established Sharia law and Islamic economics throughout the Indian subcontinent. An accomplished military leader, he has been the most controversial ruler in Indian history.
