Bina Desai Rao (b. 1958)

Bina Desai was born in 1958 in Valsad, Gujarat and is married to fellow-artist Siva Kesav Rao. She has a Masters degree in Fine Arts, from M S University, Baroda, and studied Textile Design under AEP program from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.

She is the Co-founder and Creative Head of a Business in Sustainable Fashion & Textile called ‘Creative Bee’ and works with underprivileged weavers & artisans across the country to train them in improved livelihood through highest quality eco-friendly textiles -handicraft production. She has done a number of design development and revival of textile projects for various textile clusters in rural India and South East Asia.

She has been invited to lecture and conduct design and development workshops in Australia, USA, Thailand, Malaysia and Bangladesh. She has been invited to Lakme Fashion Week and many International Fashion shows to represent India. She is also appointed as an advisor on various Committees of Government of India, Ministry of Textiles. She is the Member of All India Handloom Board and the member of the Governing Council at NID. She also is a Senior Consultant to United Nations East Africa Program and the team Leader at UNDP’s ‘Disha’ Program for 2000 Women Weavers of Telangana, supported by IKEA Foundation.

She lives and works in Hyderabad.
