Maharaja Gulab Singh (1792 – 1857)

Founder and first Maharaja of the Princely State of Jammu and Kashmir. After the defeat of the Sikhs in the first Anglo Sikh war the British sold Kashmir for 7.5 million rupees. The treaty of sale was concluded on 16 March 1846.
