He (alias Raghobadada) was the 6th Peshwa for a brief time. His father was Peshwa Bajirao and mother was Kashibai. The Peshwa title was passed to him in 1761, after defeat at the third Battle of Panipat, and the death of his brother Nanasaheb Peshwa’s and his half-brother Shamsher Bahadur’s. He was the second son of Nanasaheb but a minor at that time. Therefore, Raghunathrao was appointed as the regent to the young Peshwa.
