Before the formal inception of a dedicated press for imagery, Pune Manovedhak Chitrakala Company Press was established in Ravivar Peth, Pune. The press published manuscripts but also did a first series of portraits (above pic). The imagery had outstanding details, but did not appeal due to black & white printing. Thus leading to the foundation of Chitrashala Press in 1878 – a fully functional chromolithographic press. The adjacent pic is of the same person as above by Chitrashala.
