The Indian Portrait – XIII: Studio portraiture by Bourne & Shepherd of Princely India, 1870s

The exhibition features a princely album which is unique in itself. It holds photos clicked by Bourne & Shepherd, who would have captured a plethora of photos, out of which this album consists of 96 of them, in the form of Carte de visite (CdV). This CdV album would have been most likely compiled by a private collector, who also made sure to hand write the name of every princely state, below the photo of the corresponding king/prince.
